In case you have not been following the news lately, NASA and Stanford University’s
joint effort - Gravity Probe B
after 17-odd months of launch and collecting data has proved one of the two not-as-yet-proven aspect’s of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.
Simply put (and it will be simple as I only have a fairly basic grasp on Physics - it was one of my favorite subjects in School, but that was many moons ago 😄, Isaac Newton believed (as shown by NASA’s image below) that both time and space were fixed entities and gravity was the force which acted between the object....
Don’t get me wrong - I love Italy - the country (whatever little I have seen), the food, the language, the people but all this is also true for India
RC1 for Community Server 2007 (the thing that runs this blog) is available now and you can get it from here
. If all goes well then the RTM version is supposed to come out on the 16th of this month - in other words in four days. I will wait for the RTM before I try and update the blog to the new bits.

Google’s ISP called TISP is in Beta now - check it out
in case you are interested in joining. With only two loo’s at home though I think I’ll pass on this one
I alongwith some of my co-authors are going to be hosting a couple of MSDN Webcasts next month - the details for both are listed below.
Webcast 1
- “How to build an SOA application with WCF” Webcast 2
- “How WCF impacts on Enterprise scale applications”
Interesting way to do advertising - something (which incase you did not know), is something Avanade does not do - it is mostly word of mouth or very targeted marketing to the CxO.
Video: Avanade - Where Microsoft Innovation Meets Unrivaled Insight
This is a hilarious video of someone trying to write Perl using the speech recognition in Vista.
The first of three articles entitled “Hosting and Consuming WCF Services” which is essentially one of the chapters from the book
is now published on MSDN at the .
NET home page
. The article directly can be found via this link
. The other two should follow soon. Excellent job guys!
If you are like me, and your Hindi
is crap, what better way to learn it by reading the news via Google News Hindi
?
After a flurry of activity
on Live Writer last year there has not been any movement on Windows Live Writer
and seems like it is dead? Anyone got any updates on when (or if) when this will move forward?
I had the opportunity to present
on .NET 3.0 in the Enterprise at the Architect Insight Conference hosted by Microsoft earlier this month. All the presentations from the conference are available for download
and of course including my presentation
(13.6 mb).
Microsoft has released the March CTP of .NET 3.5 (a.k.a Orcas) and there are many new networking features. Last year as I was doing the research for my book
especially on the P2P implementation in WCF it was quite obvious that while that was an excellent start using PeerChannel, there was a lot left to me done (in managed code). This new CTP drop fixes that!
Over the last few months, I have been in touch with some of the guys on the P2P and the System....
Google Maps have recently update their data and India is one more country they show street level maps for - check it out
.
APress, the publisher of my book entitled “Pro WCF: Practical Microsoft SOA Implementation”
is giving away the first Chapter for free - you can get it from here
. The table of contents is also published and can be downloaded from here
.
Telligent have released the Beta 1 for Community Server 2007 and you can find more details here
. I have the beta running locally on my machine and on the surface I don’t see many changes, but I have not had too much time to dig into it. The only notable change is how the themes are handled - making it very easy. E.g. changing the image on the paperclip theme is a piece of cake....
Microsoft hosts an annual event in the UK called the Architect Insight Conference
. I am one of the speakers this year and will be presenting on “.NET 3.0 in the Enterprise”. This is a pretty good event and I would recommend it if you have not been to one of these. You can check out the Agenda here
and if you want, register here
and you can find out more information on the Speakers here

About time if you ask me; WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) - Incase you have not heard, WMDC is the thing that replaces ActiveSync and is the new software that allows you to sync you mobile phone or Pocket PC/PDA with Vista has finally gone RTM. . I am glad this has gone live as that means, no more hacking
to get this installed and working
....
I got this via the Avanade communities and was not aware of it. There is SyncToy v1.4 for Vista
! BTW this also works with XP and there is a white paper showing how to do this
on XP.
Dennis
earlier was responsible for collating the code from us for the book, and he just informed us it is available online! Sweet! You can get the code from here
and have a play. You will of course need .NET 3.0 RTM and preferably Visual Studio 2005.
It is good to see some reviews
starting to come along, if you have any questions feel free to ping any of us and also let us know if you find any issues with the code - or the book if you need some help....
We had a team event from work yesterday and went Go Karting
- which was the first time for me! It has been something I have been wanting to do for a while but never got around to for one reason or another. It was a lot of fun - we did three rounds of about 15 minutes each with about 10 minutes break in between each session. And other than our team there was no one else there for some reason so we had the whole place to ourselves - which made it quite easy and flexible....
If you recalled my post from a few days ago where I have a folder which mysteriously became “invisible”, well there is a fix! Thanks to some of my friends at the mother ship (read Microsoft) in helping out with this - they know who they are and do not need to be named here. One thing before you continue to the steps below, ensure you are connected to Exchange and logged in to Outlook....
Well this is quite old news but it is new to me - running IE on Linux - how cool is that. Click on the screenshot to see IE running on Ubuntu at one of the machines at home.
If you would like to run IE 7 on Linux, then check out this link
