Help with tsunami relief

If you have not done your part yet, then you can do so from both Amazon and Google , who now have links on how to contribute to the Tsunami relief on their homepages ( here and here respectively). I am not sure what kind of service would be the right one, but I am sure any kind would surely be helpful! I would be doing my bit for sure....

Tsunami death toll tops 67,000

CNN is reporting that the death toll now is over 67K :(. Everyone I know is OK, but there are thousands of families who are not! Events like these does make one think, how easily we forget mother nature and take everything for granted. Does make me think even more on the delicate balance nature has for us to survive in this harsh universe.

Back in Civilization.... and rain

Finally I got the high-speed up and running at home last night - yippee - its good to be back in civilization! This is only 2 mb dsl line - a little slower than the 3.0 megs I had back in the US, but certainly much better than the dial up we were on for the last 2-3 days (and no internet connectivity before that from home)! Well, now you will have the pleasure of more of my meaningless babble - ah the festive season - rejoice *grin*....

Change of scenery

Well, its been a few long days since I posted anything and now I am back - though slowly. The reason I was offline (not literally - thankfully) was because I was moving - not only cities, but companies and countries too! I was in lovely, beautiful, amazing San Francisco Bay Area and now am in the exciting London (where I have had the sun for the last three days and that might be a new record)....

Cell Phones can cause Ear Tumours

Thanks to Murthy for sending this one. BBC has a story , where Swedish researchers found that using your cell phone for 10 years or more increases the risk of ear tumours by four times! The Karolinska Institute study of 750 people found the risk of acoustic neuroma rose by 3.9 times on the side of the head the phone is used. There was no increase in risk on the other side of the head - giving an overall rise in risk of 1....

Don't fear, I am here

Well I have been out of the country travelling for the last three weeks and hence have not had the opportunity to blog - partly due to the fact that I was quite busy and partly due to the fact that could not find decent connectivity. Well I am headed back home tonight and should be back up and blogging sometime next week, though I would have a lot of catching up on work including loads of emails....

New Skin

Well as you can see I uploaded a new build of the blog that incorporates a new skin called LuxInterior by Gosatango. I have made some minor tweaks to this and there is still one bug that I need to resolve, though there is a workaround uploaded for it, so hopefully you would not see any issues. I would like to know if you want me to change anything in this e....

What do you think of this skin?

I thought of changing the skin to see if there is another one that is better. What do you guys think of this one? I would probably be uploading a couple more this weekend and trying out those also sometime next week. Let me know your feedback.

Bloggers burning out

Wired news has a story which talks about about bloggers are burning out because of their blogs. For example one blog owner (who is a bartender), whose blog was something more like a jam-packed nightclub than the cosy neighbourhood watering hole that he had originally envisioned. His postings often generated hundreds of comments, each of which he moderated. While they enjoy what they’re doing, many find that keeping up with the pressures to post regularly and to be sharp, witty and incisive is often too much....

What the heck am I doing here?

Some of you out there have emailed me and expressed interest in knowing a little more on what I do and what is the purpose of this blog and what the heck does it run on? Now I am absolutely amazed that there are people out there reading this. My question to you is, what the heck are you doing reading this, don’t you have work or something to do? Anyways, what can I say, I am a Geek!...

Humans are "Failure Machines"

I forget where I read this recently, but it stuck to me. Humans are failure machines, we are not success machines. We fail all the time and almost all the things. And it is only through this “weeding” process we get the feedback for the failures and learn how to correct them and then do better. Well … at least the smart ones learn to how to correct them.

The Blackout

For those of us who were lucky enough to be stuck in the Blackout of 2003, the Power System Outage task force has released their report with the causes and the resolutions. If you did not know about the Blackout, here is an excerpt from the report “ … on August 14, 2003, large portions of the Midwest and Northeast United States and Ontario, Canada, experienced an electric power blackout. The outage affected an area with an estimated 50 million people and 61,800 megawatts (MW) of electric load in the states of Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and the Canadian province of Ontario....
